Welcome to our newsletter "Food & Retail" of September 2007. The newsletter is free of charge and we aim at sending it to you each month. In each newsletter you will be informed about new publications, services and market overviews.  Our original background is food but that does not mean only supermarkets today. Foodservice, fashion, furniture,  DIY, consumer electronics, footwear etc. are studied and reported in the same practical way. We hope that our newsletters, reports and online database will support you in your vision on future retail developments.

Food Retailers information in online database now.

Last June we started our new online database Retail-Index with the sectors Fashion and Consumer Electronics.  Now we also include the Food retailers and the latest information about them. The structure of the online system is very similar to the well known reports but more retailers and more details are provided now. Next to all European countries we also include the major countries outside Europe. In total over 600 retailers are included. The costs for full access for the food retailers is 975 euro. For new subscribers it includes all retail data outside Europe.

 Growth of retail in China

'Made in China' is popular today in almost any industry and it seems the Chinese momentum is strong. No use trying to beat them in many product categories but have you considered to think the other way around. Average income is low but the number of people with steady wages is growing incredibly and they want to spend their money on Western goods just as well. Although a large percentage of the goods in the new retail chains, hypermarkets and shopping malls is sourced locally the growth in western imported products cannot be stopped.
In the China section of our new database retail-index we have soon about 50 Food retailers, 70 Fashion retailers and 30 Consumer- Electronics retailers. The data are collected by our new Chinese research team, headed by Jian Hong who worked for us during his study time in Holland. He has done various research projects in Europe and USA last year, but he decided to go where the real action in retailing today can be seen: his homeland China. He and his team work now for European and Chinese companies. The next newsletter will present an overview of the main Food retailers and the main Fashion retailers in China.

Distributor Search

If you want to increase your international operations you cannot avoid using distributors. Finding the right distributors can be a long and costly process. The most effective way is to know the market well and start with a good and long list of possible distributors. Then gradually filter them and you will get the companies that have the best growing chances for your products. We supported many companies in their Distributor Search already. More information see the
description on the website.
